R&D Innovation Project with Hunton Fiber

Hunton Fiber's BioBoard project is co-funded by the Research Council of Norway and will develop new porous wood fiber boards with a low carbon footprint and enhanced fire safety properties.  

RISE Fire Research, together with RISE PFI, assists Hunton Fiber in the product development process. Enhancing the fire-technical properties of the new wood fiber boards is one of the key innovations in the project. 

Wood fiber from spruce chips, a by-product from local sawmills, is a key ingredient in all Hunton products. Just like fir trees in the forest, wood fiber products store carbon. Compared to most other building materials, wood-based products thus contribute to reducing emissions of the greenhouse gas carbon dioxide. 

Through the BioBoard project, Hunton Fiber will develop a new generation of porous wood fiber boards. The boards will partially consist of recycled raw materials and will thus strengthen Hunton Fiber's contribution to the circular utilization of natural resources. 

Another member of the RISE family, RISE PFI in Trondheim, is also a partner in the Bioboard project. Together with Hunton Fiber, RISE PFI will maximize the boards' durability and find new solutions for emission reduction and energy efficiency in the production process.
