New report on fire requirements for claddings and surfaces

RISE Fire Research has assessed the requirements for performance of claddings and surfaces provided in the Guide to the Norwegian building regulations (TEK17). Both interior and exterior (façades) claddings and surfaces are treated. Previous and existing Norwegian regulations are assessed, and we have also examined how the fire classes for claddings are applied and interpreted in Swedish and Danish building regulations. Based on the British investigations after the fire in Grenfell Tower in London in June 2017, we have also considered whether the Norwegian regulations are sufficient to ensure fire safety of façade systems in high rise buildings.

The report concludes with several recommendations for changes in the guidance to the TEK17 to prevent misunderstandings concerning the fire regulations for cladding and surfaces. The report was prepared on assignment from the Norwegian Building Authority (DiBK).
