Freezing news: we're now offering tests of CSP insulation materials

As the first laboratory in the world, SP Fire Research now offer testing of insulation materials according to ISO 20088-1:2016 “Determination of the resistance to cryogenic spillage of insulation materials - Part 1: Liquid phase”.

The test involves exposure of the insulation material to a cryogenic spill. We can also offer custom designed tests with the combination of a cryogenic spill followed by a jet fire.

The background for the newly published test standard is the hazardous case of a cryogenic spill, where the low temperatures of the fluid can damage structures, instruments and equipment by degrading the insulation materials protecting them.

In addition, a cryogenic release of LNG(liquefied natural gas) represents a fire and explosion hazard. This means that insulation materials ought to withstand both the cryogenic release and jetfire. We therefore offer customized tests tests to document the materials' resistance against cryogenic spill, followed by a jetfire.

SP Fire Research has been actively involved in the standardization process  and we are proud to be the first to offer testing according to the new test standard.
